Current Context: On March 6, 2024, Dr. S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India, co-chaired the 10th India-South Korea Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul in Seoul.

  • The two sides discussed a wide range of topics, including cooperation in defense, science and technology, trade, people-to-people exchange, and cultural cooperation.
  • Dr. Jaishankar expressed India’s desire to expand its strategic partnership with South Korea into new areas such as critical and emerging technologies, semiconductors, and green hydrogen.
  • The two nations also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • The meeting was attended by representatives from many ministries and departments in the two governments.
