New Members Sworn In at Lokpal of India

Current Context: New members were recently sworn into the Lokpal of India. With the swearing in of these new members, the office of the Lokpal of India is now at its full strength of nine members including the Chairperson.

• Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar, the Chairperson of Lokpal of India, administered the oath of office to the following individuals:
• Judicial Member Shri Justice Lingappa Narayana Swamy: Before joining as Judicial Member of Lokpal of India, he was the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court and is a former Judge of the Karnataka High Court.
• Judicial Member Shri Justice Sanjay Yadav: Before joining as Judicial Member of Lokpal of India, he was the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court and is a former Judge of the Allahabad High Court and Madhya Pradesh High Court.
• Member Shri Sushil Chandra: He is a 1980 batch IRS (IT) officer. Before joining as Member of Lokpal of India, he was the 24th Chief Election Commissioner of India and previously served as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
• Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Pankaj Kumar, and Ajay Tirkey were also sworn in as members of the Lokpal. The oath was administered by Lokpal chairperson Justice A M Khanwilkar.
