  • National:
    • The AIM – ICDK Water Challenge 4.0 was launched by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and NITI Aayog in collaboration with the Innovation Centre Denmark (ICDK) at the Royal Danish Embassy in India on June 10th, 2024. The challenge aims to address critical water-related issues through innovative solutions.

    • The Maharana Pratap Tourist Circuit is being developed by the Rajasthan government. The announcement was made by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on June 8, 2024. The project, which is worth Rs 100 crore, will develop places associated with Maharana Pratap’s life to promote tourism.
    • On June 9, 2024, the Finance Ministry of India set an upper limit of ₹10 crore for arbitration cases. This decision is aimed at streamlining the arbitration process for resolving commercial disputes involving the government or a Public Sector Enterprise (PSE).
    • Priyanka Jarkiholi, a 27-year-old tribal woman, won an unreserved Lok Sabha seat from Chikkodi, Karnataka on June 4, 2024. She is the youngest tribal woman to achieve this feat. She is the daughter of Karnataka’s Public Works Department Minister, Satish Jarkiholi, and holds a Masters and an MBA degree.
  • Banking:
    • The Indian Central Government has released ₹1.39 lakh crore to states as part of a devolution mechanism. An extra instalment will be provided in June 2024. The total amount devolved till June 10, 2024, is ₹2,79,500 crore. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar received the highest amounts. This move aids state finances.
    • Ashv Finance Ltd, a non-banking financial company, signed a co-lending agreement with HDFC Bank on June 7, 2024. The partnership aims to provide unsecured business loans ranging from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh to micro and small enterprises (MSEs).
  • Mous:
    • On June 9, 2024, the Andhra Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Atal Incubation Centre at the Anna University Incubation Foundation in Chennai. This collaboration aims to enhance the startup ecosystem by leveraging both organizations’ strengths, focusing initially on the social sectors and expanding to other sectors based on startup interests.
  • Sports:
    • The Norway Chess 2024 tournament concluded on June 7, 2024, in Stavanger, Norway. Magnus Carlsen won his sixth Norway Chess title, Ju Wenjun emerged victorious in the inaugural women’s event, and Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu finished third.
    • Max Verstappen won the Canadian Grand Prix for the third consecutive year on Friday, 7 June 2024. The race was held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. Despite challenging weather conditions, Verstappen managed to secure the victory.
    • Carlos Alcaraz, a 21-year-old from Spain, won the 2024 French Open men’s singles title on Sunday, June 9, 2024. The tournament was held at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. He defeated Alexander Zverev in a match that lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes.
    • On June 8, 2024, Puja Tomar, an Indian fighter, created history by becoming the first Indian to win a match in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The historic match took place in Louisville, USA, where she faced off against Brazilian fighter Rayanne dos Santos in the 52 kg category.
  • Defence:
    • On June 7, 2024, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) emerged as the lowest bidder for a Rs 500 crore contract to build a research vessel for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The contract is currently under negotiation.
    • Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B. Rajeev became the first woman helicopter pilot in the Indian Navy on June 8, 2024. This marked a significant milestone in promoting gender inclusivity in the Indian armed forces.
  • Important Days:
    • World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2024 is on June 9th. This global initiative by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) aims to highlight the importance of accreditation. The theme for 2024 is “Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future”.
  • Appointments:
    • Inder Pal Singh Bindra, an IRS officer, was appointed as the Secretary of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) on June 8, 2024. He replaced Anupama Anand and his term is for three years.
