Current Context: The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) Forum High-Level Event 2024 was held in Geneva, Switzerland from 27th to 31st May 2024.
India Participated at ITU’s WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event Held in Geneva
  • The event marked the 20 years of progress made in the implementation of the outcomes of the WSIS.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Additional Secretary (Telecom) Shri Niraj Verma.
  • He highlighted that India is leading in drafting global standards for responsible and trustworthy AI.
  • The TEC has released a Standard for assessing and rating fairness in AI Systems and is now framing another Standard for assessing and rating robustness of AI systems.
  • India will host the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2024 in New Delhi from 15-24 October 2024.
  • The event aimed to take stock of the achievements and key trends, challenges, and opportunities since the Geneva Plan of Action in 2003.
  • It served as a platform for multistakeholder discussions and aimed to build a people-centric, inclusive, and development-oriented Information Society.
  • The event is co-organized by the ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD.
