Current Context: The GST Council has reconstituted three Groups of Ministers (GoMs) as new ministers from 11 states joined the body.

    • GST Rate Rationalisation GoM: This group, which recommends rate rationalization, was already reconstituted in February. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary now serves as its convenor, replacing Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.
    • GoM on Analysis of Revenue from GST: The new finance minister from Odisha will be inducted into this group. Additionally, the name of the new finance minister from Haryana needs to be included in the panel.
    • GoM on Boosting Real Estate Sector under GST: This group, previously headed by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, will be reconstituted due to a change in Bihar’s finance minister.
    • GoM on GST System Reforms: Under the convenorship of Ajit Pawar, this group will be reconstituted with five new ministers from Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
