    • Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire) recently became the 53rd Party to the 1992 UN Water Convention, officially known as the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. This accession marks Ivory Coast as the 10th African nation to join the treaty.
  • Banking:
    • TechFini, a Mumbai-based fintech startup, has received approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based payment infrastructure provider. This certification enables TechFini to function as a UPI Issuer 2.0, UPI Acquirer 2.0, issuer and acquirer of credit lines on UPI, and enabler of RuPay credit cards, among other services.
  • Economy:
    • FICCI forecasts India's GDP to grow by 7% in FY25, with CPI inflation projected at 4.5%. The survey, released on July 18, 2024, highlights India's economic resilience amidst global challenges. Agriculture is expected to rebound significantly, contributing to overall growth.
  • Science & Technology:
    • Researchers from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) discovered a new plant species called Phlogacanthus sudhansusekharii in the Itanagar Wildlife Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh.
    • Scientists from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) collaborated with NASA’s ICESat-2 satellite to create the most comprehensive map of Adam’s Bridge, also known as Ram Setu. This submerged ridge stretches from Dhanushkodi in India to Talaimannar Island in Sri Lanka. The mapping exercise utilized ICESat-2’s laser beams to ascertain that 99.8% of Adam’s Bridge lies submerged in shallow waters.
