Current Context: The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Health Ministry with Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Education Ministry on November 22, 2024, in New Delhi.

  • The main aim of this MoU is to provide enhanced funding and technical support to the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) at BHU, similar to the model used for new AIIMS under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
  • Key Objectives:
    • Improve Healthcare Services: Enhance the availability of high-quality secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
    • Reduce Patient Referrals: Minimize the need for patients to seek specialized treatment elsewhere by improving local facilities.
    • Enhance Clinical Care: Upgrade clinical care with advanced medical technologies and infrastructure.
    • Academic Collaboration: Promote collaboration in medical education and research with leading institutions.
  • This partnership aims to significantly boost healthcare delivery, medical education, and research capabilities at IMS, BHU.
