Current Context: The India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Combat Unauthorised Trade was held in Kathmandu from January 10-11, 2025.

  • The Indian delegation was led by Shri Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary, Ministry of Commerce.
  • The Nepali delegation was headed by Mr. Gobinda Bahadur Karkee, Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
  • key highlights:
    • Wheat Supply: India agreed to supply 200,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Nepal.
    • Axle Weight Limits: India agreed to apply axle weight limits for Nepali cargo vehicles in transit through the Kakarbhitta-Banglabandha route.
    • Plant Quarantine: Sal seeds and Chayote were included in India's Plant Quarantine Order.
    • Milk Products: Nepal agreed to consider importing whey and cheese from India.
