Current Context: The Central Government has elevated three High Court judges to the Supreme Court of India on May 29, 2025.
Three High Court judges elevated to the Supreme Court by the Center
Newly Appointed Supreme Court Judges:
  • Justice N.V. Anjaria – Former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court
  • Justice Vijay Bishnoi – Former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court
  • Justice A.S. Chandurkar – Former Judge of Bombay High Court
The oath ceremony was conducted on May 30, 2025, by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. With these appointments, the Supreme Court temporarily regained its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges, though a vacancy will arise upon Justice Bela M. Trivedi’s retirement on June 9, 2025.
