National:
  • On July 2, 2025, Ghana launched a Climate-Resilient Wheat Initiative in collaboration with India’s Arima Farms and CSIR–Crops Research Institute. The aim is to reduce Ghana’s $400 million wheat import bill by developing high-yielding, drought- and heat-tolerant wheat varieties. The initiative promotes food security, sustainable agriculture, and South–South cooperation.

  • On 27–28 June 2025, Ladakh hosted its first Astro Tourism Festival in Leh, organized by the Department of Tourism and Indian Institute of Astrophysics. The event included stargazing, astrophotography, and expert sessions at the University of Ladakh and Hanle Dark Sky Reserve. It aimed to promote science-based tourism and interest in space sciences among youth.
  • On 2nd July 2025, Telangana launched TGDeX (Telangana Data Exchange), India’s first state-led Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Artificial Intelligence. Developed by the Indian Institute of Science with support from JICA, it offers access to AI-ready datasets, models, and tools. TGDeX aims to boost collaboration across government, startups, and academia.
  • In May 2025, Gujarat became the third Indian state to cross one crore registered stock market investors, following Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The milestone was publicly reported on July 3, 2025, based on data from the National Stock Exchange. Together, these three states now account for 36% of India’s total investor base.
  • Khelo India Water Sports Festival 2025 will be held at Dal Lake, Srinagar from August 21–23. Over 400 athletes from across India will compete in events like kayaking, rowing, and dragon boat racing. It’s the first-ever water sports edition under the Khelo India initiative. The festival aims to promote water sports and nurture talent in Jammu & Kashmir.
International:
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first Indian leader to address Ghana’s Parliament on July 3, 2025. He highlighted shared democratic values, colonial history, and India’s commitment to the Global South. Modi called for reforms in global governance to amplify southern voices. He was also conferred Ghana’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the Star of Ghana.
Banking:
  • On 2nd July 2025, Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) and Kshema General Insurance launched a rural-focused insurance product called ‘Kshema Kisan Sathi’. It offers dual benefits of crop insurance and personal accident coverage for farmers and rural customers. The policy will be distributed through KVB’s rural branches, while Kshema will handle claims using tech like satellite imaging.
  • On 1st July 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the interest rate on Floating Rate Savings Bonds (FRSB) 2020 (Taxable) unchanged at 8.05% for the July–December 2025 period. The rate is linked to the National Savings Certificate (NSC) rate with a 0.35% spread. Interest is paid semi-annually and is fully taxable with TDS applicable. These bonds have a 7-year lock-in, with early withdrawal options for senior citizens.
Economy:
  • On July 1, 2025, Crisil revised India’s FY26 GDP growth forecast to 6.5%. The upward revision was driven by expectations of an above-normal monsoon, supportive monetary policy with further rate cuts, and rural-focused budgetary measures.
Science & Technology:
  • On July 2, 2025, astronomers captured the first image of a star’s double detonation in the Large Magellanic Cloud. A white dwarf exploded twice—first in its helium shell, then its core—triggering a Type Ia supernova. ESO’s Very Large Telescope revealed two concentric calcium shells. The discovery confirms the double-detonation theory and advances stellar science.
  • On July 3, 2025, Indian researchers at Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) Bengaluru and Aligarh Muslim University reported a breakthrough in energy storage. They developed lanthanum-doped silver niobate, boosting supercapacitor efficiency and energy retention. The material is eco-friendly, lead-free, and achieved 100% coulombic efficiency.
  • On 1st July 2025, a new flowering plant species named Begonia nyishiorum was discovered in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district. It is named after the Nyishi tribe, honoring their connection to the region. The plant features crimson-fringed petioles, a trait unique among Asian begonias.
Defence:
  • On July 1, 2025, DRDO’s Defence Electronics Application Laboratory (DEAL) conducted field trials of the Software Defined Radio (SDR) Manpack and Compact Transhorizon Communication System (CTCS) in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. The SDR Manpack enables secure digital voice/data communication across VHF/UHF and HF bands. CTCS ensures high-data-rate backhaul connectivity in remote, infrastructure-deficient regions.
Committees:
  • The 23rd Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Asia Regional Meeting was held from July 1–3, 2025, at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. It was chaired by India’s National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) and co-organised with OPCW. Delegates from 24 Asian countries participated to strengthen Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) implementation.
  • On July 1, 2025, India and UAE held a high-level Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) meeting in Dubai to boost industrial cooperation. It was co-chaired by India’s Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and UAE’s Economy Minister Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri. The meeting included officials from both sides and Indian CPSEs like SAIL, NMDC, and MECON. The focus was on green steel and high-grade aluminium for mobility and manufacturing sectors.
Important Days:
  • International Plastic Bag Free Day is observed every year on July 3 to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic bags on the environment. The day was first launched in 2008 by Rezero, a member of Zero Waste Europe, and is now led globally by Bag Free World. It promotes the use of eco-friendly alternatives like cloth and jute bags to reduce plastic pollution.

  • On July 1, 2025, Pakistan assumed the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for the month of July. This marks its 8th time holding the position, with the announcement made on the same day. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad is presiding over the Council, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is leading key high-level events.
Awards & Honours:
  • On July 3, 2025, Deepika Padukone was announced as a recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 2026. She becomes the first Indian actress to receive this global honour. She joins stars like Emily Blunt and Timothée Chalamet in the Class of 2026.
Obituaries:
  • On 2nd July 2025, Shekhar Dutt, former Governor of Chhattisgarh and ex-Defence Secretary, passed away at the age of 76. He was a 1969-batch IAS officer and also served as Deputy National Security Advisor. Earlier, he was an Army officer awarded the Sena Medal for bravery in the 1971 war.
  • On July 2, 2025, actor Julian McMahon died at age 56 in Clearwater, Florida, after battling cancer. He was best known for roles in Fantastic Four, Nip/Tuck, and Charmed. McMahon was the son of former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon.
