IFC Committed Rs 460 Crore to IndiGrid to build India’s largest BESS Project in Gujarat

Current Context: On 3rd July 2025, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, committed ₹460 crore (approximately $55 million) to IndiGrid (India Grid Trust) for developing India’s largest standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Gujarat.

• The project will have a capacity of 180 MW / 360 MWh and is designed to support grid stability, manage peak electricity demand, and enable greater integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
• The funding includes $38.5 million from IFC’s own account and $16.5 million from the Clean Technology Fund (CTF).
• This initiative aligns with India’s national goal of achieving 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030 and Gujarat’s target of 100 GW renewable capacity.
• The project has received tariff approval from the Gujarat Energy Regulatory Commission (GERC) and is expected to be commissioned within FY 2025–26.
