4th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) held in Rome

Current Context: The 4th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) was held in Rome, Italy from 11–12 September 2025, hosted by the Italian Coast Guard in partnership with the Japan Coast Guard and organised with support from The Nippon Foundation.

 

• It was co-chaired by Italy and Japan under the theme “Guardians at Sea”, focusing on safer, cleaner, and more secure seas.
• The aim was to strengthen global maritime governance, enhance cooperation, and share best practices in maritime safety, marine environment protection, emergency response, and law enforcement.
• Delegates from 115 countries participated, including a two‑member Indian Coast Guard team led by Director General Paramesh Sivamani, who presented on India’s fire emergency response at sea.
• Key discussions covered marine pollution control, search & rescue, countering transnational maritime crimes, capacity building, and technology adoption.
• India also announced its bid to host the 5th CGGS in Chennai in 2027, coinciding with the Indian Coast Guard’s Golden Jubilee.
