National:

• On 26 September 2025, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated India’s first Maritime Simulation Centre at the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (AMET) Knowledge Park, Chennai, in collaboration with A.P. Moller–Maersk.

• On 25 Sept 2025, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated India’s first AI-powered Pilgrim ICCC at Tirumala Temple. The centre integrates 6,000+ AI cameras, 3D maps, and digital twin dashboards for real-time crowd prediction, safety, and cyber resilience. It processes 518 million events daily, ensuring shorter queues, faster darshan, and enhanced pilgrim safety.
• The World Seafood Congress (WSC) 2026 will be held from 9–11 February 2026 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Tamil Nadu, marking the first time India hosts this global event. Organised by the International Association of Fish Inspectors (IAFI) with India’s Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAHD), it will focus on sustainable seafood trade, safety, aquaculture, and climate resilience.

International:

• On 24 September 2025, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched its first Sovereign Mobility Cloud at the Dubai World Congress for Self‑Driving Transport. Developed by Space42 with Core42’s Sovereign Public Cloud and Microsoft Azure, it ensures all autonomous transport data stays within UAE jurisdiction.

Banking:

• On 25 Sept 2025, SBI Card and IndiGo Airlines launched a co‑branded credit card under the BluChip loyalty programme. It comes in two variants – IndiGo SBI Card (₹1,499 fee) and IndiGo SBI Card ELITE (₹4,999 fee). Cardholders earn IndiGo BluChips redeemable for flights, upgrades, meals, hotels, and travel spends.
• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a ₹2.7 lakh penalty on Muthoot FinCorp Ltd. on 26 Sept 2025. The NBFC failed to comply with the Internal Ombudsman (IO) framework by not auto‑escalating rejected complaints. The penalty followed a statutory inspection (31 March 2024) of its financial position.
• On 25 Sept 2025, TVS Motor Company Ltd. acquired Engines Engineering S.p.A. (Italy) for €5.05 million. The deal establishes a Global Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Design & Engineering in Bologna, Italy. It will boost premium motorcycles, scooters, and electric vehicles (EVs), while strengthening Norton Motorcycles.
• SIDBI launched the DIA Scheme (Development of Industry Associations) on 24 Sept 2025 to transform MSME clusters. It strengthens industry associations with infrastructure, HR, and a digital portal for networking & research. The scheme promotes financially sustainable, innovation-driven associations. Inspired by FPOs, it aims to make clusters self-reliant and globally competitive.
  

MoUs:

• On 26 Sept 2025 in New Delhi, Bank of Baroda inked an MoU with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL). The pact aims to finance MSME & C&I solar projects of up to 10 MW capacity. It offers collateral‑free loans up to ₹10 crore with CGTMSE cover, interest from 7.75%, and repayment up to 120 months. The move will boost MSME clean‑energy adoption and aid India’s 500 GW renewable target by 2030.

Sports:

• India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 Final on September 28, 2025, at Dubai International Stadium. Pakistan were bowled out for 146 runs, with Kuldeep Yadav (4/30) leading India’s bowling. India chased the target with 150/5 in 19.4 overs, powered by Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 runs. This victory gave India their 9th Asia Cup title, with Abhishek Sharma named Player of the Series.
• India defeated Bangladesh 4–1 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) Under‑17 Championship 2025 Final. The match was played on 27 September 2025 at the Racecourse International Stadium, Colombo (Sri Lanka). Goals for India came from Dallamuon Gangte and Azlaan Shah KH, while Bangladesh equalised twice.
• England all‑rounder Christopher Roger Woakes retired from international cricket on 29 September 2025 after 14 years. He played 62 Tests (192 wickets, 1 century), 122 ODIs (173 wickets), and 33 T20Is (31 wickets). Woakes was part of England’s 2019 ODI World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup‑winning squads.

Defence:

• On 30 Sept 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) formally retired its last squadron of MiG‑21 fighter aircraft, ending over six decades of service. The MiG‑21, inducted in 1963, was India’s first supersonic jet and played key roles in the 1971 and Kargil wars. The final unit, No. 4 Squadron (“Oorials”), based in Air Force Station Uttarlai, Rajasthan, was decommissioned.

Important Days:

• World Heart Day is observed on 29 September 2025, led by the World Heart Federation (WHF) and World Health Organization (WHO). The 2025 theme is “Don’t Miss a Beat”, stressing prevention and timely action against Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs). It marks the 25th anniversary of the campaign, first celebrated in 2000.

Appointments:

• Mithun Manhas was elected 37th BCCI President on 28 Sept 2025 at the 94th AGM in Mumbai. He succeeded Roger Binny, becoming the first from J&K to head the board. A domestic stalwart with 9,700+ First‑Class runs, he led Delhi to the 2007–08 Ranji title. Other office‑bearers confirmed: Rajeev Shukla (VP), Devajit Saikia (Secy), Prabhtej Bhatia (Jt Secy), Raghuram Bhat (Treasurer).
• Shailesh Chandra appointed Managing Director (MD) & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tata Motors Limited (TML), effective October 1, 2025, for 3 years. Announcement made on September 26, 2025; he will also continue to head Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML). This aligns with Tata Motors’ demerger into Passenger Vehicles (PV) + Electric Vehicles (EV) and Commercial Vehicles (CV) entities.
• Pragyan Ojha (former India left‑arm spinner) and Rudra Pratap Singh (RP Singh) (former India left‑arm fast bowler) appointed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Senior Men’s National Selection Committee on September 28, 2025. They replace S. Sharath and Subroto Banerjee on the panel.
• Ranga Venkataramani, Senior Advocate, has been re-appointed as the Attorney General (AG) of India for a fresh two‑year term. The appointment was announced on September 27, 2025, effective October 1, 2025, and he will serve till September 30, 2027.
• On 26 Sept 2025, Justice Sujoy Paul was appointed Acting Chief Justice (CJ) of Calcutta High Court. The appointment was made by the President of India under Article 223 of the Constitution of India. He replaced Justice Soumen Sen, elevated as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.

Awards & Honours:

• Senior journalist Amshi Prasannakumar (Mysuru) has been awarded the Hombale Samhita Harinikumar Krishi Media Award 2025 for his outstanding contribution to agricultural journalism. The award, instituted by the UAS Alumni Association, Bengaluru, will be presented on 11 Oct 2025 at Hebbal, Bengaluru.

Books:

• On 25 Sept 2025, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the book Living The Vivekananda Way at Delhi University. Authored by Dr. Ananya Awasthi and Dr. Nikhil Yadav, it was published by Rupa Publications. The book presents Swami Vivekananda’s teachings in a practical form for modern India and Gen Z.
