National:
  • On 29 September 2025, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) launched the “Promise to Children” campaign during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India and Sri Lanka. It is endorsed by Ayushmann Khurrana (UNICEF National Ambassador) and Smriti Mandhana (Vice‑Captain, Indian Women’s Cricket Team).

  • On 25 Sept 2025, Diljit Dosanjh earned his first International Emmy nomination for Best Actor for his role in Amar Singh Chamkila, while the film itself was nominated in the TV Movie/Mini‑Series category. Directed by Imtiaz Ali and released on Netflix in April 2024, the film portrays the life of Punjabi folk icon Amar Singh Chamkila, assassinated in 1988.
  • The 3rd Unmesha: International Literature Festival was held in Patna, Bihar, from 25–28 Sept 2025, organised by the Sahitya Akademi, Ministry of Culture, and Govt. of Bihar. It brought together 550+ writers, poets, and scholars from 15+ countries, representing 100+ languages.
  • On 26 Sept 2025 (CSIR Foundation Day), the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR‑AMPRI), Bhopal inaugurated its indigenously developed SODAR (Sound Detection and Ranging) system at the India Meteorological Department (IMD), New Delhi. An MoU between CSIR‑AMPRI and IMD enables nationwide data sharing and collaborative research.
  • Rani Rashmoni (1793–1861), born on 28 September, was a philanthropist, social reformer, and founder of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple in Kolkata. She built ghats, roads, and supported education and libraries, leaving a lasting legacy in Bengal’s cultural renaissance.
  • On 29 Sept 2025, the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) sanctioned ₹82 lakh to the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Board for Red Sanders conservation. The funds will raise 1 lakh saplings under the Trees Outside Forests programme, benefiting farmers. This is part of the Access and Benefit Sharing mechanism of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
  • On 30 Sept 2025, the Indian Navy signed a ₹47 cr contract with Kochi startup EyeROV for indigenous underwater drones (UWROVs). The EyeROV TROUT, depth‑rated to 300 m, supports surveillance, reconnaissance, and recovery missions. It features 4K imaging, robotic arms, and sonar sensors.
International:
  • On 29 Sept 2025, India announced two cross-border railway projects with Bhutan worth ₹4,033 crore, marking Bhutan’s first-ever rail links. The 69-km Kokrajhar–Gelephu line (₹3,456 cr) will aid Bhutan’s Mindfulness City project, while the 20-km Banarhat–Samtse line (₹577 cr) will support its industrial hub. Funded entirely by India, the projects will be completed in 3–4 years.
MoUs:
  • On 25 Sept 2025, the Indian Air Force (IAF) signed an MoU with IIT Ropar, Punjab in Chandigarh. The aim is to develop indigenous technologies for sustaining and enhancing IAF weapon systems under Atmanirbhar Bharat. It was signed by Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg (AOC‑in‑C, Maintenance Command) and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja (Director, IIT Ropar).
Science & Technology:
  • On 24 Sept 2025, scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR–NBFGR), Kochi discovered a new finless snake eel off Colachel coast, Kanniyakumari. The species, named Apterichtus kanniyakumari, honours the district’s cultural and geographical heritage.

  • The International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) was observed on 28 Sept 2025, marking the 10th anniversary of its UNESCO proclamation. The 2025 theme was “Ensuring Access to Environmental Information in the Digital Age”, stressing the role of digital tools in climate action and sustainability.
  • The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) was observed on 29 Sept 2025, its 6th edition. The 2025 theme was “Stop Food Waste! For People and Planet”, highlighting the urgent need to cut losses across production, storage, distribution, and households. Globally, one-third of food is wasted, causing 8–10% of GHG emissions and undermining food security.
  • International Translation Day is observed on 30 September 2025, led by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) and recognized by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The 2025 theme is “Translation: Shaping a Future You Can Trust”, stressing the importance of human translators in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Appointments:
  • On 29 Sept 2025, the Government appointed Shirish Chandra Murmu as the new Deputy Governor of RBI. He will serve a 3-year term starting Oct 9, 2025, succeeding M. Rajeshwar Rao. Murmu was earlier an Executive Director at RBI, handling governance and compliance. With this, RBI continues its team of four Deputy Governors supporting the Governor.
  • On 1 October 2025, Rajeev Verma, a 1992‑batch IAS officer of the Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, assumed charge as the Chief Secretary of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD). He succeeded Dharmendra, who retired on 30 September 2025, following an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 28 September 2025.
  • On 21 Sept 2025, it was confirmed that Gaurav Banerjee will continue as MD & CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) till August 2029. His appointment, ratified at the AGM on 25 Aug 2025, extends his leadership after succeeding N.P. Singh in 2024. SPNI, which runs 28 TV channels and SonyLIV, posted ₹6,511 crore revenue and ₹840 crore profit in FY24.
