Current Context: The International Conference on Manuscript Heritage 2025 was held from 11–13 Sept 2025 at Bharat Mandapam/Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi,

  • Organised by the Ministry of Culture and chaired by Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy.
  • The theme was “Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage” and the aim was to preserve, digitise, and globalise India’s manuscript wealth.
  • Over 500 delegates and 75 scholars participated in sessions on conservation, digitisation, AI‑archiving, and ethical custodianship.
  • Exhibitions of rare manuscripts, live conservation demos, and cultural events enriched the gathering.
  • On 12 Sept 2025, during this conference, PM Narendra Modi launched the ‘Gyan Bharatam’ Mission, a national initiative to digitise, conserve, and disseminate India’s manuscript heritage through a National Digital Repository.
  • With 44 lakh manuscripts already documented, the mission uses AI‑driven tools for preservation, translation, and research, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and positioning India as a Vishwa Guru in knowledge heritage.
