  • On 6 October 2025, Arunachal Pradesh launched its first-ever commercial coal mine at the Namchik–Namphuk block in Changlang district, marking a historic milestone for the state’s energy and economic development. The project was inaugurated by Union Coal & Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy along with CM Pema Khandu.

  • From 9–19 October 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government is organising Swadesh Melas in all 75 districts to promote MSMEs, khadi, handloom, handicrafts, and indigenous products. The initiative follows the success of the UP International Trade Show 2025 and aims to boost the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement during the festive season.
International:
  • On 7 October 2025, California officially declared Diwali a state holiday, becoming the third U.S. state after Pennsylvania and Connecticut to do so. Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 268, co-authored by Ash Kalra and Darshana Patel, making the law effective from 1 January 2026.
Banking:
  • On 7 October 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the linking of the Bharat Connect (Bharat Bill Payment System – BBPS) with the FX-Retail platform (operated by Clearcorp Dealing Systems) to allow individuals to digitally buy US dollars for outward remittances, forex card loads, or currency notes at competitive rates.
  • On 8 October 2025, Bajaj Finserv Ltd. announced the rebranding of its insurance subsidiaries as Bajaj General Insurance and Bajaj Life Insurance, following the buyout of Allianz SE’s 26% stake in their joint ventures. With this, Bajaj Group now holds 100% ownership in both entities, marking a new phase under the campaign “100% Bajaj. Made in India. Made for India. Made by India.”
  • On 8 October 2025, SBI General Insurance launched its flagship retail health insurance product “Health Alpha”, a customisable plan with over 50 coverage options. It allows customers to design their own health cover, with sum insured ranging from ₹5 lakh to unlimited, making it one of the most flexible health insurance products in India.
  • The RBI cancelled the licence of Jijamata Mahila Sahakari Bank, Satara on 7 Oct 2025. The action was due to inadequate capital, poor earnings, and non-compliance with the Banking Regulation Act. The bank had earlier lost its licence in 2016, restored in 2019, but continued to deteriorate. Depositors will be repaid up to ₹5 lakh under DICGC insurance cover.
MoUs:
  • On 7 Oct 2025, the Madhya Pradesh govt signed an MoU with Spain’s Fira Barcelona International in Bhopal. Aim: To build an international‑standard convention centre for global events, trade fairs, and cultural exchange. It was signed in presence of CM Mohan Yadav, Spain’s Ambassador, and Fira Barcelona CEO Richard Zapatero.
  • On 7 October 2025, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras signed an MoU with the Indian Navy at its Chennai campus to strengthen research, technology development, and innovation in naval and maritime domains. The collaboration focuses on naval technology, ocean structures, ship design, hydrodynamics, and advanced engineering solutions.
  • On 7 October 2025, the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru to set up a pilot demonstration project for producing green hydrogen from biomass, particularly paddy straw. The agreement was exchanged during the 5th International Conference on Recent Advances in Bio-Energy Research at SSS-NIBE, Kapurthala.
Defence:
  • On 6 October 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) and the Tri‑Services, launched the Indian Radio Software Architecture (IRSA) Standard 1.0 at DRDO Bhawan, New Delhi. The standard is designed to ensure interoperability, waveform portability, and certification for Software Defined Radios (SDRs) used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Awards & Honours:
  • On 7 October 2025, Malayalam superstar and Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Mohanlal was felicitated with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation Card by General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi. The recognition honours his outstanding contribution to society, long-standing association with the Territorial Army, and voluntary service during national crises.

  • On 7 October 2025, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu launched the book “Above and Beyond – Exploring the Amazing World of Aviation”, authored by Shiv Kumar Mohanka, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Obituaries:
  • On 9 Oct 2025, Punjabi actor and bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman died of a heart attack in Amritsar. He was the world’s first vegetarian professional bodybuilder and won Mr. India 2009. He also secured 2nd place in Mr. Asia and acted in films like Tiger 3, Roar, and Kabaddi Once Again.
