Current Context: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) revised the guidelines of the Per Drop More Crop (PDMC) scheme on 18 October 2025.
MoAFW Revises Guidelines for PDMC Scheme to Foster Micro-Irrigation
  • PDMC is a component of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), launched in 2015 to promote micro‑irrigation (drip and sprinkler systems).
  • Earlier, funding for micro‑level water management activities (like diggi construction, water harvesting structures, storage tanks) was capped at 20% of allocation (40% for North‑Eastern (NE) states, Himalayan states, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), and Ladakh).
  • Under the revised guidelines, States and Union Territories (UTs) can now exceed these limits as per local requirements.
  • The reform aims to ensure efficient water use, higher crop productivity, and climate‑resilient agriculture, aligning with the goal of Doubling Farmers’ Income (DFI).
