MoHUA Rolls Out ‘SSJ’ Urban Waste Management Mentorship Initiative

Current Context: On 27 Sept 2025, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the Swachh Shehar Jodi (SSJ) initiative at Sonipat, Haryana under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban.

• The program pairs 72 top-performing mentor cities with about 200 low-performing mentee cities to share best practices in waste management and sanitation.
• Nearly 300 MoUs were signed nationwide to formalize these partnerships.
• The initiative focuses on waste segregation, scientific processing, used water management, grievance redressal, and citizen engagement.
• It will run as a 100-day mentorship program, with results reflected in Swachh Survekshan 2026.
