IFFCO and Amul have been recognised among the world’s leading cooperatives

Current Context: The World Cooperative Monitor (WCM) 2025 was released by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE) in Doha on November 4–5, 2025.

• Amul (Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation – GCMMF) secured the 1st position globally, while IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited) ranked 2nd, making India the global leader in cooperatives.
• This recognition highlights the strength of India’s cooperative model in empowering farmers and rural women.
• Amul’s dairy cooperative network involves millions of women, while IFFCO supports farmers with affordable fertilizers and services. 
• Globally, the Top 300 cooperatives achieved a turnover of USD 2.79 trillion in 2023.
• Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home & Cooperation Minister Amit Shah hailed this as a milestone for India’s cooperative movement.
