Current Context: On 18 November 2025, India was unanimously re-elected to the Codex Executive Committee (CCEXEC) for the Asia Region during the 48th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC48) held in Rome.

  • The Indian delegation was led by Rajit Punhani, CEO of FSSAI, along with officials from multiple ministries and research bodies.
  • With this re-election, India will represent Asia’s interests until CAC50 in 2027, ensuring the region’s technical and trade priorities are addressed in the global food standard‑setting.
  • India also emphasised the use of modern technologies like AI to improve Codex efficiency and supported updates to databases on food safety parameters.
