Current Context: On 22 December 2025, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of Chhattisgarh at Raipur.

  • The project proposes a 12.7 Lakh Metric Ton (LMT) per annum gas-based urea plant.
  • The MoU was signed by Rajat Kumar (Secretary, Commerce & Industries, Chhattisgarh) and Rajeev Kumar Singhal (Director, Business Development, GAIL), in presence of Chief Minister (CM) Vishnu Deo Sai.
  • It is a non-binding MoU, focusing first on techno-economic feasibility studies.
  • The plant will be strategically located along the Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Natural Gas Pipeline corridor for assured feedstock supply.
  • Aim: To enhance domestic fertilizer production and reduce reliance on imported urea.
