• India’s non‑fossil fuel power capacity touched 266.78 GW in 2025, marking a sharp 22.6% rise over 2024. This includes solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and nuclear sources, reflecting India’s strong renewable energy push. The achievement was announced on 10 January 2026 by Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi. • The second edition of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD) 2026 was held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi from 9–12 January. International:

• India and Oman signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on 10 January 2026. The pact grants India duty‑free access to 98% of Oman’s tariff lines, covering nearly all exports. It includes cooperation in goods, services, investment, and professional mobility. Significance: Strengthens bilateral trade ties, supports India’s Gulf strategy, and boosts clean energy & MSMEs.

Banking:

• The Reserve Bank of India has announced a major liquidity boost of about ₹3 trillion to ease tight conditions in the banking system. Of this, ₹2 trillion will be infused through open market operations, with government bond purchases scheduled in four tranches. The remaining liquidity will come via a USD/INR foreign exchange buy-sell swap. Together, these measures aim to stabilize the rupee, lower bond yields, and ensure smoother credit flow across banks.

Defence:

• On 11 January 2026, DRDO successfully flight‑tested the third‑generation MPATGM in Maharashtra. It is a man‑portable, fire‑and‑forget, top‑attack missile with an advanced IIR seeker. Developed by DRDO’s DRDL Hyderabad, it can defeat modern armored vehicles with a tandem warhead. Significance: Boosts India’s indigenous defence capability and strengthens infantry against armored threats.

• The 13th Council Meeting of NITSER (National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research) was held on 13 January 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
