National:
  • From April 2026, the National Statistical Office (NSO) will launch India’s first‑ever National Household Income Survey (NHIS) and Annual Survey of Institutions for School Education (ASISSE). The NHIS will collect detailed data on household income, expenditure, and inequality, filling a key statistical gap. The ASISSE will provide annual insights on school infrastructure, teachers, enrollment, and learning conditions.

  • On 2 February 2026, Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh inaugurated the CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Shore‑Based Regional Centre at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, built at a cost of ₹32 crore, will serve as a hub for marine research, coastal studies, and ocean technology development. It aims to strengthen India’s capabilities in blue economy, climate resilience, and sustainable ocean resource management.
  • On 30 January 2026, the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA) launched two new modules on the UMEED Central Portal. The Survey Module will digitally capture and update data on Waqf properties. The Waqf Property Lease Module will streamline leasing processes with greater transparency and accountability.
  • On 30–31 January 2026, the 5th Rüsoma Orange Festival was organised at Rüsoma village, Nagaland, under the theme “Abundance of Rüsoma.” The festival celebrated the village’s thriving orange cultivation, with 470 of 570 households engaged in farming. It featured cultural events, local cuisine, handicrafts, and plans to expand orchards to 100 hectares producing 25 lakh fruits in coming years.

  • On 2 February 2026, the State Bank of India (SBI) launched its Global Trade Finance Centre (GTFC) in Kolkata. The GTFC will serve as a centralized hub for trade finance operations, streamlining processes and boosting efficiency. It aims to provide end‑to‑end solutions for exporters, importers, and corporates, supporting India’s global trade growth.

  • Indian shuttler Devika Sihag won her maiden BWF Super 300 title at the Thailand Masters 2026 on 1 February 2026 in Bangkok. She defeated Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei, who retired while trailing 21–8, 6–3 in the final. At just 20 years old, Devika became the third Indian woman after Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu to win a Super 300 crown.

  • Indian Coast Guard Day 2026 was celebrated on 1 February 2026, marking the 50th Raising Day (Golden Jubilee) of the force. From its modest beginning in 1977 with just seven vessels, the ICG has grown into the world’s fourth‑largest coast guard.
