Current Context: The Fourth World Ocean Science Congress (WOSC) took place from 23–26 February 2026 at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR–NIO), Goa.
World Ocean Science Congress 2026
  • Its theme was “Ocean Health and Sustainable Future”.
  • Organized by Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR–NIO), National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), and Goa University.
  • Inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant; chaired by Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh (Director, CSIR–NIO), with co‑chairs Prof. Harilal B. Menon (Vice‑Chancellor, Goa University) and Dr. Thamban Meloth (Director, NCPOR); patrons included Dr. Jitendra Singh (Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences).
  • Aim: To connect ocean research with coastal communities, enhance climate resilience, and strengthen the blue economy.
  • Highlights: Fishermen’s Meet, launch of Machli App & National Marine Risk Intelligence Brief 2026, release of 600+ research papers, student ocean literacy programs, showcase of Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Samudra Pratap, and adoption of the Goa Declaration.
