Current Context: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched a pilot “Awareness Program on Digital Payments” in March 2026, announced by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

  • The initiative was part of the 6th Digital Payments Awareness Week (DPAW), observed from 9–13 March 2026.
  • Theme: “Thoda Dhyan Se” (Be a little cautious) – highlighting safety in digital transactions.
  • Pilot Location: Maharashtra, in partnership with CSC (Common Service Centres) e‑Governance Services India Ltd.
  • Mode: In‑person awareness sessions conducted by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
  • Target Reach: Around 10 lakh (1 million) participants, mainly in rural and semi‑urban areas.
  • Focus Areas: Safe usage of UPI (Unified Payments Interface), fraud prevention, cyber‑security, and financial literacy.
