Current Context: On April 23, 2026, BharatGen Technology Foundation signed an MoU with L&T Semiconductor Technologies and L&T‑Vyoma in Mumbai.

  • The aim is to build India’s first Sovereign AI Compute Platform, ensuring Atmanirbharta and data sovereignty.
  • Custom sovereign silicon (AI‑specific ASICs and xPU chips) will be designed by L&T Semiconductor Technologies.
  • Infrastructure support will come from L&T‑Vyoma’s 30 MW hyperscale data centre in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
  • BharatGen, led by IIT Bombay, will develop multilingual AI models for 22+ Indian languages using Bharat Data Sagar.
