Current Context: National Statistics Office (NSO) under MoSPI – Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released Energy Statistics India 2026 on 30 March 2026.

  • It is the 33rd edition of the annual publication, providing official data on India’s energy sector.
  • Covers reserves, production, consumption, imports/exports of coal, lignite, petroleum, natural gas, electricity, and renewable energy.
  • Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES – Kilo Tonnes of Oil Equivalent, KToE) rose 2.95% in FY 2024–25, reaching 9,32,816 KToE.
  • Coal (~79% of supply) remains dominant; renewable potential 47,04,043 Megawatt (MW) with solar contributing ~71%.
