Current Context: The National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) quarterly bulletin for January–March 2026 (Q4 FY26) on May 12/13, 2026.
Urban Unemployment Rate declined to 6.6%: PLFS Jan-March 2026
  • Urban Unemployment Rate (15+ years): 6.6%, down from 6.7% in Oct–Dec 2025, marking one of the lowest levels in the past year.
  • Rural Unemployment Rate: 4.3%, up from 4.0% in the previous quarter, while the Overall All‑India Rate stood at 5.0%.
