  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra, Rajasthan. Developed by HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL), the project aims to boost domestic fuel production, reduce import dependence, promote petrochemical manufacturing, generate employment, and accelerate industrial development in western India.

  • Japan has reaffirmed its support for completing the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (Bullet Train) Project, providing financial and technical assistance.   • The Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) has selected its first 15 Global Biofuel Champion Fellows to promote research, innovation, and international collaboration in sustainable biofuels. The initiative supports clean energy adoption and the global transition to low-carbon fuels.
  • On 1 July 2026, the Government of Gujarat launched the Namo Swachhta Abhiyan and Amrutpan Abhiyan to promote cleanliness, safe drinking water, and better public health. The initiatives aim to improve sanitation, encourage hygiene, and support the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.India Unveils First Indigenous Export-Import Shipping Container
  • Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal unveiled India's first indigenously manufactured export-import shipping container, marking a major step towards self-reliance in the logistics sector.   • On 1 July 2026, the Munger Banyan Tree in Bihar was declared the world's oldest scientifically dated banyan tree. Scientific studies estimated its age to be around 550 years, making it a significant natural heritage site. The recognition highlights the importance of biodiversity conservation, scientific research, and the protection of India's ancient trees.
  • The e-OCI Card is the digital version of the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card, launched by the Government of India to provide OCI cardholders with secure and convenient digital access to their OCI documents. It enables easier identity verification, paperless travel, and quick access to OCI-related services through digital platforms.
Banking 
  • On 2 July 2026, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a USD 182.89 million loan to support the Government of Karnataka in improving the quality and infrastructure of government schools. The project aims to modernise school facilities, strengthen digital and STEM education, enhance teacher capacity, and improve learning outcomes, thereby promoting inclusive and quality education across the state.
Awards and Honours: 
  • On 2 July 2026, West Bengal received Geographical Indication (GI) tags for 23 new products, taking the state's total number of GI-tagged products to one of the highest in India. The recognition protects the unique identity and traditional heritage of these products, prevents unauthorised use of their names, enhances their market value, and promotes local artisans, farmers, and regional industries.
  • On 30 June 2026, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, received the 2026 USISPF Leadership Award from the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum. The award recognises his outstanding contribution to strengthening India–US economic ties, promoting business cooperation, driving digital innovation, and enhancing bilateral investment and strategic partnerships between the two countries.
  • On 1 July 2026, MECON Limited, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Steel, was granted Miniratna Category-I status by the Government of India. The recognition was awarded in view of the company's strong financial performance and operational efficiency. The new status provides MECON with greater financial and operational autonomy, enabling it to undertake larger projects, make quicker investment decisions, and strengthen its role in India's infrastructure and steel sectors.
Appointments
  • On 30 June 2026, Bijay Kumar Mohanty assumed the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). He was entrusted with this additional responsibility to ensure the continued leadership and smooth functioning of IREDA, the country's leading public sector financial institution for renewable energy financing.
Government Schemes & Portals
  • On 3 July 2026, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, strengthened the Rashtriya Parivarik Labh Yojana (National Family Benefit Scheme) to provide timely financial assistance to poor families after the death of their primary earning member. The scheme aims to offer social security and financial support to economically weaker families by providing a one-time assistance of ₹30,000 to eligible beneficiaries, thereby helping them cope with financial hardship and ensuring quicker, transparent service delivery through digital processing.
Defence:
  • On 2 July 2026, the Indian Navy deployed its P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2026 multinational naval exercise. The deployment aims to enhance maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare capabilities, and interoperability with partner navies. India's participation in RIMPAC 2026 reflects its commitment to strengthening international naval cooperation, promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, and improving maritime security.

  • International Plastic Bag Free Day is observed every year on 3 July to raise awareness about the environmental hazards caused by single-use plastic bags. No official global theme has been announced for 2026. The day encourages individuals, businesses, and governments to reduce plastic bag consumption, adopt reusable alternatives, and support sustainable practices to protect the environment and marine ecosystems.
  • The International Day of Cooperatives is observed on 4 July 2026 (the first Saturday of July) with the theme "Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World." The day recognises the vital role of cooperatives in promoting inclusive economic growth, creating employment, reducing poverty, and supporting sustainable development.
