Current  Context: India is chairing the 9th Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Consumer Protection Law and Policy of the United Nations Trade and Development from 6–8 July 2026.

  • The meeting is being held at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland, organised by the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
  • India is represented by Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • The meeting aims to strengthen global consumer protection laws and policies.
  • It promotes international cooperation to safeguard consumer rights and  sustainable consumption and responsible business practices.
  • It addresses cross-border consumer disputes and mechanisms for dispute resolution.
