  • In early August 2026, 19 ministers were inducted into the Karnataka Council of Ministers as part of a cabinet expansion. The expansion aimed to improve regional, social and political representation while distributing responsibility among departments. The portfolios allocated to the new ministers and the balance between cabinet ministers and ministers of state are important examination points.
  • India performed more than 20,000 organ transplants during 2025, reflecting significant growth in the country’s transplantation programme. The achievement was highlighted during the 16th Indian Organ Donation Day observed on 3 August 2026. The government stressed the need to increase deceased-organ donations, improve hospital coordination and build public awareness. Despite progress, demand for organs continues to exceed availability, making voluntary donation and transparent allocation systems essential.
  • The Assam government announced ₹160 crore as interim relief to support people affected by floods. The funds are intended for immediate assistance, restoration of damaged infrastructure, relief camps, food, drinking water, sanitation and rehabilitation work. District administrations were directed to assess losses and ensure timely distribution of assistance. The interim package is separate from any additional support that may be provided after detailed damage assessments by the state and central governments.
  • In August 2026, India outlined railway projects worth approximately ₹45,000 crore in areas adjoining the borders with China, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The projects are expected to include new lines, doubling, electrification and station upgrades. They will also support economic development in remote and border regions.
  • India approved one Chinese foreign direct investment proposal under its security-screening mechanism. Investments from countries sharing a land border with India require prior government approval under Press Note 3 of 2020. The screening process examines ownership, beneficial control, national-security implications and the proposed sector. The approval indicates that Chinese investment is not completely prohibited but is considered individually after consultations among the relevant ministries and security agencies.

The rules seek to protect policyholders and ensure that significant ownership changes do not weaken an insurer’s solvency, governance or operational stability.
