Current Context: The Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, organised PSB Confluence 2026 on 17–18 August 2026 in New Delhi to discuss reforms, growth strategies and the future role of Public Sector Banks.
- The Confluence was attended by senior officials from Public Sector Banks, Public Financial Institutions, the Indian Banks’ Association and the Government.
- Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the meeting and highlighted the need for stronger, more customer-focused public-sector banking.
- The discussions focused on deposit mobilisation, youth banking, investment financing, priority-sector lending, agriculture infrastructure, Global Capability Centres and credit cards.
- Banks were encouraged to build stronger relationships with young customers and expand access to banking, education, skilling and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- The meeting also discussed ways to improve agriculture and horticulture financing, including support for FPOs, storage, processing and logistics.
- Another key focus was strengthening the credit-card ecosystem through digital onboarding and greater use of RuPay-UPI integration.
