On 8 September 2026, the National Steering Committee under PM-SETU, or Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs, approved investment plans worth ₹735.70 crore. On 9 September 2026, reports highlighted Belgium’s construction of Princess Elisabeth Island, planned as the world’s first artificial energy island. Located approximately 45 kilometres from the Belgian coast in the North Sea, the island will collect electricity from offshore wind farms and transmit it to the mainland. Economy:

Appointments:

Established through UN General Assembly Resolution 74/212, the observance promotes cooperation to reduce air pollution and protect human health, climate, productivity and ecosystems.

Obituaries:

On 8 September 2026, Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong’s first Chief Executive after its transfer from British to Chinese rule in 1997, passed away at the age of 89. A shipping businessman before entering politics, he served as Chief Executive from 1997 to 2005 and later as a vice-chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
