MHA Identifies 28 Places and Geographical Features in Ladakh on Official Survey of India Map

Key Points:

  • Who announced it? The exercise was announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and carried out in consultation with the Ladakh administration.
  • What has changed? These 28 locations are now formally represented with standardised place and feature names on the official Survey of India map, reducing ambiguity in geographical references.
  • Types of features included: The list covers peaks, mountains, passes, glaciers, valleys, land areas, a river, a lake and a water body.
  • Important strategic locations: The list includes Gogra as a land area and Hot Spring as a water body. Both are located in the broader Ladakh border region and have figured prominently in discussions around India-China military disengagement.
