NRCB Inked Deal with Andhra Pradesh Government

National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) has inked a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Andhra Pradesh State Government to enhance technologies for the efficacy of banana production.
  • As per the reports, NRCB would serve as a ‘knowledge partner’for enhancing technologies towards value chain management, supporting banana export, organic production and waste utilisation.
  • NRCB would also impart sufficient training to the entrepreneurs in the initial phase, which would prompt them to promote indigenous and commercial varieties of banana, which would open the floodgates for domestic and also for input & export markets. 
  • The Andhra Pradesh government had brought out a Food Processing Policy and had sought R&D support from select institutes in the country and ICAR-NRCB was one among them.

About National Research Centre for Banana

  • ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana was established on 21st August 1993 at Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu by ICAR, New Delhi.
  • It aims to increase the production and productivity of banana and plantains through mission mode basic and strategic research approaches. 
  • The Centre works on four major thrust areas of research viz., Crop Improvement, Crop Production, Post Harvest Management and Crop Protection.
