‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’: 31 October 2017

31st October is observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas every year in India.


  • The day aims to foster and reinforce the Government’s dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity and security of our nation
  • Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India.
  • It was introduced by the Government of India and inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. 

Vigilance Awareness Week: 30th October to 4th November 2017


  • The Central Vigilance Commission' Vigilance Awareness Week is observed from 30th October to 4th November 2017. 
  • The theme of the week is “My Vision-Corruption Free India”

World Cities Day: 31 October 2017

  • The United Nations General Assembly has designated the 31st of October as World Cities Day. 
  • The Day promotes the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.
  • 2017 Theme: Innovative Governance, Open Cities
  • The general theme of World Cities Day is Better City, Better Life, while each year a different sub-theme is selected, to either promote successes of urbanization or address specific challenges resulting from urbanization.
