
- On this day in 1949, the Constitution of India was adopted, by the Constituent Assembly.

- The 389 member Constituent Assembly took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to write and enact the Constitution.
- It consists of 395 Articles divided into 22 Parts with 12 Schedules and 94 constitutional amendments.
- It is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world.
- Articles 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 60, 324, 366, 367, 379, 380, 388, 391, 392, 393 and 394 of the Constitution came into force on 26 November 1949 and the remaining articles on 26 January 1950
