Ira Joshi has been appointed as the director general (DG) of Doordarshan News by the information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry
- The post was vacant ever since former DG Veena Jain retired in August 2017
- Joshi is currently working as the director general of Press Information Bureau (PIB)
- She has worked as the additional director general at the publications division and directorate of advertising and visual publicity (DAVP)
- I&B ministry has also appointed Ghanshyam Goel as the director general of directorate of advertising and visual publicity (DAVP).
- Goel is the director general of Press Information Bureau (PIB) in New Delhi.
- DAVP is the nodal agency of the central government for advertising on behalf of various ministries, departments, public sector firms and autonomous organizations funded by the government.
About Doordarshan
- Doordarshan is an autonomous public service broadcaster founded by the Government of India
- It is owned by the Broadcasting Ministry of India and is one of two divisions of Prasar Bharati.
- It is one of India's largest broadcasting organisations in terms of studio and transmitter infrastructure, having been established on 15 September 1959.
- Doordarshan was started in Delhi on 15 September 1959
- Regular transmission started in 1965 as a part of All India Radio.
- Doordarshan began a five-minute news bulletin in 1965. Pratima Puri was the first newsreader.
- The first TV serial of Doordarshan Ladoosingh Taxiwala was started in 1976
