Anushka Sharma Named PETA's Person Of The Year

Bollywood diva, Anushka Sharma who has recently married cricketer Virat Kohli, has been named PETA Person of the Year Award for helping to protect dogs from fireworks.

She was appreciated for raising her voice for the horses who are forced to pull carriages in Mumbai.
PETA Associate Director Sachin Bangera said
"Anushka Sharma is a proud animal rights proponent whose kindness and initiative know no bounds," 
He added
 "PETA is calling on everyone to follow her lead by eating healthy plant-based meals, helping community animals by speaking up when they are suffering, and always keeping an eye out for new ways to help animals," 

Anushka's Efforts 

To protect animals from cruelty she launched her cruelty-free NUSH clothing line. She frequently visits animal shelters and promotes her ideas on social media. She also launched a campaign called PAWsitive to raise awareness of the suffering fireworks cause to animals and demanded a ban on cruel carriage rides in Mumbai.

PETA, which stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was founded in 1980 by Newkirk and fellow animal rights activist Alex Pacheco. The organisation's slogan "Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way." highlights its objectives. This Norfolk, Virginia based non-profit organisation focuses on the animal right and rejects speciesism and also opposes the use and abuse of animals in any way, as food, clothing, entertainment, or research subjects.
