Dangal Wins Best Asian Film Award at AACTA

The biopic of Indian women-wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat, Dangal, after winning accolades in India, has been gathering appreciation at International-levels.

Amir Khan starer Dangal has won the  Best Asian Film at the seventh Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.
The news was disclosed by veteran actress Shabana Azmi who was one of the jury led by led by Hollywood star Russell Crowe.
Shabana Azmi tweeted,
 'Dangal' wins Best Asian Film at AACTA. Congratulations Team Dangal. With Russel Crowe chairman of the jury, it was a unanimous decision,’wrote Azmi, alongside a selfie with the Oscar-winning actor.
Dangal is the struggle-success story of Mahavir Phoghat and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phoghat.  Amir Khan himself played the role of Mahavir Phogat while Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra portray the adult versions of the two Phogat sisters. The movie is perfectly directed by Nitesh Tiwari depicting all the real-life elements of the Phoghat sisters and their journey to claim the medals. Geeta Phogat who won India's first ever gold medal in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games in 2010. The title of first Indian female wrestler to have qualified for the Olympic Summer Games is also in the name of Geeta Phogat.
