- It is India’s independent regional Navigation Satellite System.
- It is a Global Positioning System which is designed to provide real-time positioning and timing services.
- During the Kargil War in 1999, India was completely dependent on American GPS. This triggered the need for an indigenous navigation satellite system for India.
