Duke of Cambridge, Prince Williams, honoured Harry Potter-fame author J.K. Rowling with Royal Companion Of Honor Award at Buckingham Palace.
The award has been presented to her as an as recognition of her services to literature and philanthropy.

What is Royal Companion Of Honor Award?
Order of the Companions of Honour was founded by George V in 1917 to recognise services of national importance. This is a special award granted to those who have made a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time. The members, of which there are 65 at any one time. Non-British nationals can be honorary members of the Order, and count as additional to the main 65. We all know Rowling as a successful author who has been recognised for Harry Potter Series but she is also active as a social worker. In 2000, she established the Volant Charitable Trust, which uses its annual budget to combat poverty and social inequality. The fund also gives to organizations that aid children, one parent families, and multiple sclerosis research.
In May 2008, bookseller Waterstones asked Rowling and 12 other writers to compose a short piece of their own choosing on a single A5 card, which would then be sold at auction in aid of the charities Dyslexia Action and English PEN. Rowling's contribution was an 800-word Harry Potter prequel that concerns Harry's father, James Potter, and godfather, Sirius Black, and takes place three years before Harry was born. The cards were collated and sold for charity in book form in August 2008.
