India and Oman conducted the 11th edition of "'Naseem Al Bahr' or 'Sea Breeze', naval exercise off the coast of Oman.
This biennial exercise has been conducted since 1993.
Participating Ships
Indian Naval Ships Trikand and Teg were deployed to Oman to participate in the exercise. For the very first time, a submarine and the P8I long-range maritime aircraft also participated in the exercise.
On the other hand, four Royal Navy of Oman ships - Al Rasikh, Khassab, Al Mubashir and Al Bushra join the naval exercise.
India-Oman Relations
Bilateral relations between Indian and Oman were formally established with the signing of the 1953 Indo-Oman Treaty of Friendship, Navigation and Commerce, a first between India and an Arab country. The signing of an MoU on Defence Cooperation in December 2005 and subsequent establishment of the Joint Military Cooperation in March 2006 has set the foundation for increased defence cooperation. The naval cooperation between the countries has gradually increased in scope and scale. Since then, naval exercises have contributed to strengthening bilateral ties between India and Oman.
