India's national academy of letters, the Sahitya Akademi, has announced the winners of Sahitya Akademi Awards 2017.
- 24 writers writing in 24 languages have been chosen to be honoured in February 2018.
- Seven books of novels, five of poetry, five of short stories, five of literary criticism and one of play and essays have won the Sahitya Akademi Award 2017.
- Sreenivasarao announced the theme for Sahitya Akademi’s next edition of ‘Festival of Letters’ — ’70 years of Indian Independence’

About Sahitya Akademi Awards
Established in 1954, Sahitya Akademi Awards is a literary honoured conferred annually on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the 24 major Indian languages. The award recognizes and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends.
The award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of 100000 rupees. The plaque awarded by the Sahitya Akademi was designed by the Indian film-maker Satyajit Ray.
