By providing Internet access to Nepal, China has become the second Internet service provider of Nepal, breaking India's monopoly in doing so.
- China Telecom Global (CTG), a company founded in 2012 located in Hong Kong and Beijing has formed a group with Nepal Telecom to provide alternative cyber-connectivity for Nepal.
- Nepal had been linked to the global internet network through Indian telecom operators, using optical fiber connections in Biratnagar, Bhairahawa and Birgunj, among others.
- State-owned telecom company Nepal Telecom (NT) mentioned that all the groundwork has been completed to formally connect Nepal with Chinese bandwidth from January 12.
- The use of Internet has been increasing rapidly in Nepal, therefore to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demand the Chinese internet bandwidth is taken as an alternative source for Nepal.
- The Chinese Internet gateway is also expected to facilitate service providers in Nepal to establish bandwidth connection with other countries via China.
- As of now the Nepal Telecom is purchasing limited volume of internet from China but it plans to increase the volume of Chinese internet gradually in near future.
