External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Bhutan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Lyonpo Damcho Dorji jointly unveiled the 'Special logo' in New Delhi and Thimphu through video-conference.
- This logo was launched to mark the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan is being celebrated in the year 2018.
- The two countries established formal diplomatic relations in 1968 with the appointment of a resident representative of India in Thimphu.
- Besides high-level exchanges, both India and Bhutan have planned a series of special commemorative initiatives, cultural activities, exhibitions and seminars throughout the year.
- In her remarks, Sushma Swaraj mentioned that the exemplary ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Bhutan are built on shared values and priorities, utmost trust and understanding, mutual respect and sensitivity to each other's interests.
- There is a strong partnership between the two governments. Apart from this partnership, the contacts between people of both the countries have provided depth and character to the relationship.
- Sushma Swaraj reaffirmed India's abiding commitment to building on the strong foundations of cooperative-partnership with Bhutan.
- The Foreign Minister of Bhutan also conveyed the deep gratitude from people of Bhutan for India’s friendship and cooperation to the External Affairs Minister. He said that the special ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries would grow from strength to strength as people from both sides continue to enjoy peace, progress, and prosperity.
