India and Cambodia Sign 4 MoUs

The MoUs were signed between the Indian Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and his Cambodian counterpart Samdech Hun Sen.

  • Cambodian PM Samdech Hun Sen was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. 
  • The Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen was on a state visit to India. 
  • India and Cambodia on Saturday inked four pacts and agreed to further enhance bilateral defence ties between the two countries.
  • The four agreements signed include one to improve cooperation in prevention, investigation of crimes and legal assistance in criminal matters, besides a line of credit from India to fund Cambodia’s Stung Sva Hab water resources development project for USD 36.92 million.
  • Both the countries agreed on exchanges of senior-level defence personnel and capacity-building projects.
  • They discussed exploring ways to intensify the development partnership and boost ties in key sectors, including trade and investment, energy conservation agriculture, and tourism and culture.
  • The Cambodian PM also invited Indian companies to invest in Cambodia highlighting the fact the Cambodia has got benefited due to India’s Act East Policy.
  • An MoU on the prevention of human trafficking was also signed between India and Cambodia. Under this, the two countries will see increase bilateral cooperation on the issues of prevention rescue and repatriation related to human trafficking.
  • A pact for cultural exchanges through 2018-2020 was also signed between the two nations.
  • These agreements seek to promote cultural exchange and strengthen the friendly relations between the two nations.

Cultural Exchange Programme with Cambodia for the year 2018-2022

  • It seeks to promote cultural exchange and strengthen the friendly relations between India and Cambodia.

Credit Line Agreement between the EXIM Bank, Government of India and the Government of Cambodia.

  • This agreement is for a Line of Credit to finance the Stung Sva Hab Water Resource Development Project for US$ 36.92 million.

Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.

  • It seeks to improve the effectiveness of both countries in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crimes through cooperation and legal assistance in criminal matters.

MoU on Cooperation for Prevention of Human Trafficking.

  • It seeks to increase the bilateral cooperation on the issues of prevention, rescue and repatriation related to human trafficking.
