The language is commonly spoken Turkey's Canakci in Giresun province for communication through highly-developed and high pitch system of whistling

The language has a 500-year-old historical background. During  Ottoman Empire, it was widely used across the Black Sea regions. But with technological advancements and introduction of mobile phones, this cultural heritage under serious threat.

Many of its most proficient speakers who use their tongue, teeth and fingers, are aging and becoming physically weak and young people are no longer interested in using the language nor they want to contribute to increasing the vocabulary with new words This village of some 400 people where tea and hazelnuts are cultivated is located in the heart of the "whistle country" and more than 80 per cent of its inhabitants practice this incredible method of communication.
