'Whistled language' of Turkish Village on UNESCO List

A very unique language called "The Bird Language" or "The Whistle Language" has become a part of UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The language is commonly spoken Turkey's Canakci in Giresun province for communication through highly-developed and high pitch system of whistling

Background

The language has a 500-year-old historical background. During  Ottoman Empire, it was widely used across the Black Sea regions. But with technological advancements and introduction of mobile phones, this cultural heritage under serious threat. 

Issue

Many of its most proficient speakers who use their tongue, teeth and fingers, are aging and becoming physically weak and young people are no longer interested in using the language nor they want to contribute to increasing the vocabulary with new words This village of some 400 people where tea and hazelnuts are cultivated is located in the heart of the "whistle country" and more than 80 per cent of its inhabitants practice this incredible method of communication. Bird Language Festival is a step taken to keep this language alive.
