The first meeting of NITI Forum for North East was conducted in Agartala, Tripura.
- The meeting was organized by NITI Aayog, Ministry of DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) and the North Eastern Council (NEC).
- The meeting was inaugurated by Minister of Development of North East Region Dr Jitendra Singh and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog Dr Rajiv Kumar.
- Chief Ministers of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, senior officials of NITI Aayog and Union Government were also present in the meeting.
Highlights of the meeting
- In the meeting conducted, emphasis was given on infrastructure and connectivity. Mr. Rajiv mentioned five missions on which NITI Forum will focus. These missions will be conducted in a time-bound manner. These include development in the fields of Agriculture, Horticulture, Food Processing, Tourism, Bamboo use and 'Made in North East'.
- In his inaugural speech he also mentioned that there is a planning for UDAN 3 through which the state capitals will be interconnected.
- He said that the focus of development projects in the NER will be based on the concept of “HIRA” (Highways, Inland Waterways, Railways and Airways) as mentioned by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Apart from this, he also made it clear that emphasis will also be made on Education, Health and Skill Development in the region.
- In the meeting it was highlighted that that the government has already initiated talks with a private airline for connecting Agartala with Dhaka and Chittagong.

- Strategies for improving Road, Rail and Air Connectivity in the North East Region
- NE States to encourage Organic Farming
- Promotion of Tourism
- Increased coverage under Crop Insurance
- Strengthening of North East Tourism Development Council (NETDC)

NITI Forum
The NITI Forum was formed to explore and formulate the framework for sustainable growth of the Northeast. It was constituted in February 2018. The secretariat for the Forum has been established in the DoNER Ministry. The Forum includes representation from all NE States, their Chief Secretaries and Secretaries of relevant Central Ministries or Departments, Directors of reputed institutions like IIT and IIM, experts and journalists have been included as members. NITI Forum aims to ensure the sustainable economic growth of the North Eastern Region (NER) of the country and periodically review the development status in the North Eastern region.Expected Questions
