Current context: Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) plans to launch a scheme for sampling, testing and inspection of milk
FSSAI to Launch Testing scheme for Licensed Dairy Units
  • The scheme is to be launched from October 1, 2019, to set up a self- monitoring mechanism for licensed dairy establishments
  • As per the scheme, The milk processors will have to undertake quality and safety tests at regular intervals
  • The step is taken after a few samples were found containing adulterants in FSSAI’s National Milk Quality Survey last year
  • The state authorities are advised to strengthen the enforcement along with State Animal Husbandry Departments
  • The scheme will enhance the internal control of FSSAI at licenced dairy processing establishments

  • Concerned Act: the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006
  • Department: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
  • Purpose: To regulate the manufacture, storage, sale and import of safe and wholesome food for human consumption by laying down science-based standards of measurement
